Dash Rip Rock, Boiled Alive (Mammoth Records)

Right from the warning sticker on the front of this package, you know it’s gonna be a rough ride—and sure enough, Dashbasco it is. Bill, Ned and Chris trash, twang and thunder through 19 bonafide Dashclassica. In between the opening belch and the fading cheers is red hot rock ‘n’ roll as it’s meant to be. Wild, breakneck tempos, screaming rockabilly guitar, manic renditions of George Jones’ “White Lightnin’” and Hank’s “Jambalaya” and possibly the world’s best version of “Delta Dawn.” The melody to “Fastest Song” will keep you humming for seconds. If you like your rock to be interspersed with the F-word, the S-word, the B-word and the Z-word, if you like the idea of “broomfiah sucking pond water,” then Dash has just given you one helluva back-to-school party disc. Boil the crawfish, dish out the filé gumbo and put the Turbodogs on ice—Dash is back!
