Warren Storm-Willie Tee and Cypress

Warren Storm-Willie Tee and Cypress

(Jin)

Like many contemporary swamp pop releases, this self-titled album primarily consists of classic rock ’n’ roll. That’s not to say that swamp pop isn’t classic rock ’n’ roll, it’s just that tunes like “Fannie Mae” and “Shake, Rattle and Roll” aren’t exactly native to South Louisiana. South Louisiana sax legend Willie “Tee” Trahan plays his ass off and trades lead vocals with Warren Storm throughout. As expected, the Domino influence is in place here as no less than four Fats covers are included. Closer to the bayou, there are splendid versions of “Irene,” “Sea of Love and “Why Can’t You.” (What, no Matilda?”) There are a couple of Bobby Charles covers too, including a bang up version of “Tennessee Blues.” Nothing terribly serious here just a healthy dose of Saturday night music South Louisiana style.
