Journalist Alison Fensterstock and former Circle Bar manager Lefty Parker have arranged a New Orleans bounce showcase in Austin during SXSW next week. Unfortunately, bands performing at SXSW do so essentially at their own expense; in this case, that has meant that they’ve had to raise the money to take DJ Jubilee, Ms. Tee, Partners-N-Crime, Big Freedia, Katey Red, Vockah Redu, and Magnolia Shorty to Austin. They raised some of the money through a now-closed Kickstarter.com effort, and they have planned two events this week to help put together money for travel and lodging while at SXSW.

DJ Jubilee

Tonight, the Saint will host a night with DJ Rusty Lazer during which they will hold a raffle for prizes including a special limited edition Defend New Orleans tour T-shirt signed by the artists, and lots of rare music including vintage DJ Jimi cassettes and CDs, and a DVD of rare bounce songs from Fensterstock and Parker’s collection.

On Friday night during the Foburg music festival, Parker will DJ at the R Bar where the raffle efforts will continue from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
