Of all the gigs rapper Mystikal has done since the start of his career, tonight’s concert at House of Blues will be one of the most important. It is only his second solo show in New Orleans since being released from jail in January after serving a 6-year sentence. In this month’s Backtalk interview he goes in-depth about his incarceration and his plans for resuming his music career, devulging that tonight’s concert will be his first in front of a full live band, a concept he had been considering just before being sent to prison.

In this video (shot by Brandan “bmike” Odums of 2-Cent Entertainment, profiled in our July issue) Mystikal is filmed with Mannie Fresh in the legendary producer’s car, listening to beats and occasionally breaking into freestyle when the inspiration hits him. Conclusion: the star’s still got it (that, and the city lies in wait now for a Mannie Fresh/Mystikal collaboration album).
