All-Ages Venue “The Cypress” Opening in Metairie

This Saturday, June 25, a new venue in an old space is opening up its doors in Metairie as one of the only all-ages music clubs that New Orleans has to offer. The Cypress, formerly known as the Highground and Cypress Hall, is re-opening as a “multi-genre music venue that will play host to local musicians,” says Anthony Cusimano, one of the club’s operators and production managers.

This weekend’s grand-opening event will double as a CD release party for local funk/blues rock band Liquid Peace Revolution, a group comprised of five young musicians barely out of high school who have taken on the self-appointed responsibility of “resurrecting rock ‘n’ roll.”

The quintet will share the stage with the Clements Brothers and Monks of Makumba, confirming Cusimano’s assertion that the Cypress will be a venue to “book bands of all genres in order to keep the venue diverse and open to everyone.”

In addition to accommodating traditional music events, the venue’s operators also intend to host a series of Q&A modeled seminars that “kids and adults alike can attend in order to hear some of the top local people involved in the music business,” says Cusimano.
