It’s Summertime: Free Fridays Back at Tipitina’s

“There’s a general buzz in the air during the Summer when we do the series.” That’s Lindsay Adler, Promotions Director at Tipitina’s. She’s talking about the Tipitina’s Free Fridays Series, which kicks off tomorrow with the Latin-tinged Los Po-Boy-Citos and Mas Mamones, plus a group of interns from the Tipitina’s T.I.P. program.

Thanks to their non-profit arm the Tipitina’s Foundation, as well as other sponsors (disclosure: including OffBeat), the music club is able to host the series with no cover charge every Friday through the end of August while still paying the bands their regular wages.

But don’t think that no cover means no talent. In the past five years, the Free Fridays Series has featured top local artists like Honey Island Swamp Band or New Orleans Bingo! Show, with “sold-out” atmospheres most nights. This summer they have another exciting lineup planned, with headliners that include Good Enough for Good Times, Stooges Brass Band, Flow Tribe, and others.

Each concert starts at 10 p.m. All shows are 18+, and new this year will be snoballs for sale outside. There will also be a bar outside, which Adler expects concert-goers will use to make “adult” snoballs.

Here’s the full Free Fridays concert lineup through July (August will be announced soon):
