Meters Fail to Make 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Denied, folks. Denied! The 2013 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been announced, and New Orleans’ funk icons the Meters — after making the initial cut — aren’t in there.

In the performer category, Heart, Albert King, Randy Newman, Public Enemy, Rush and Donna Summer made the inductees list. The Ahmet Ertegun (non-performer) Award will be presented to Lou Adler and Quincy Jones.

The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performer inductees were chosen by more than 500 voters of the Hall’s Foundation. Notably this year, fans had the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process via an online ballot—the top five artists as selected by the public made up a “Fans’ ballot” that was tallied along with the other ballots.

The Meters ranked 13th out of the 15 contenders, which also included Deep Purple, N.W.A., the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Kraftwerk. (They bested the Marvelettes and Chic.)

The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be taped in April to air on HBO May 18.
