NOLA GIRL JAM 2013 Heads to U.S. Mint This Weekend

Join the ladies of Nola Girl Jam 2013, Friday, March 1st through Sunday, March 3rd, as they transport you to a time of chorus girls, bawdy vocalists, and intoxicating hot jazz and dance, all to celebrate the artistic achievements of women in jazz history. Nola Girl Jam will host their Second Annual ‘Nola Girl Jam,’ which honors Women in Jazz music and dance from the eras of Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday. This three-day festival includes activities for both men and women interested in exploring the history of female vocals in the American Jazz culture.

Attendants will learn how to be in a 1930’s chorus line, flap a 1920’s Charleston, and study dance movements with a NOLA Burlesque dancer, all while listening to the sweet sounds of Aurora Nealand’s Royal Roses. There is an impressive lineup of female musicians that are listed on their website.

Kick off your weekend Friday night at 8pm on March 1st with Welcome To The Jazz Age (costumes encouraged). Followed by Return to Storyville at 8pm on March 2nd. These parties will feature live Jazz led by Frenchmen Street’s Ben Polcer and showcasing numerous other artists. The parties will include cocktails, costume contests, old-time photo stalls, vintage clothing booths, nails by Savage Beauty, chorus girl troupes from around the country, and more.

Girl Jam will be hosting free classes, concerts and presentations during daytime hours on Saturday and Sunday as well. For more information and/or to purchase tickets, please visit:  www.nolagirljam.com.
