Jamie Gonna Get Some Juice Sunday, March 3

Beloved New Orleans musician and chef, Jamie Galloway will be remembered NOLA-style with a proper second line jazz funeral on Sunday, March 3 beginning at 3 p.m. on Oak Street, uptown. Galloway died Friday, February 22 after suffering a heart attack and stroke. He was an integral member of the local band, Juice, with co-founder and former LSU roommate, Dave Jordan. Jamie provided harmonica, percussion and vocals for Juice, as well as cooking up a storm in the Carrollton neighborhood as a favorite chef.

Band mate and long-time friend Dave Jordan and other music community members such as Tara Iuso, Amanda Day Vance-Bukaty, Kate Gegenheimer and Martha Alguera have organized a  musical going home celebration for Galloway which will take place this Sunday.

A second line for Jamie Galloway will be held on March 3, 2013.

Aron Lambert and Dave Jordan will be organizing the myriad of musicians who have expressed interest in playing the second line or at the Maple Leaf. There will be a short second line with food on Oak Street culminating inside the Maple Leaf Bar. On Sundays, traditionally it’s Joe Krown, Walter Wolfman and Russell Batiste playing at the Maple Leaf, and they all had a special connection with Jamie. Other members of local bands such as the Meters, Funky Meters, Honey Island Swamp Band and Billy Iuso’s Restless Natives are just some of the musicians that will be there. As is customary here in NOLA, there will surely be lots of other people in the music industry showing up to honor Jamie. As expected, Juice will also perform some of their tunes. For all those who are planning on going, be at the Maple Leaf at 3 p.m. and plan to stay late.

Joe Krown says that he and his Sunday night residents have a special pre-show planned before they take the stage at 10 p.m. He tells us, “A musical tribute to Jamie Galloway will be from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.. There will be a cover charge donation [where] 100% of [the proceeds] will help with Jamie’s final arrangements. All of the above musicians will be there, plus I’m sure many more will come. Then at 10 p.m. the night will [transition] into our regular Sunday night program with sit-ins from the musicians rotating through [Jamie’s going home]. Everyone that paid the donation for Jamie between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. is invited to stay for free to continue the party with Russell Batiste, Walter Wolfman Washington and myself.”
