Look-Ka Py Py Podcast (ep 27): TBC Brass Band’s Unstoppable Groove

“The fight for Bourbon Street is not over,” says To Be Continued Brass Band trombonist Edward Jackson III in this week’s episode of OffBeat Magazine’s Look-Ka Py Py Podcast. In the years following Hurricane Katrina, the young act found its groove on the corner of Bourbon and Canal, often a drawing bigger crowds than the decadent deluge’s most popular bars. But the Bourbon Street parade came to a screeching halt for the burgeoning brass band in June 2010 when the city silenced the band’s horns and began enforcing an 8:00 p.m. noise ordinance in the Vieux Carre.

Since, the band has stepped in its old stomping grounds only a handful of times (most recently in November 2012), and with each, the police sent them packing. Still, the To Be Continued Brass Band never lost its spirit or its way, and its recent rise through the brass band ranks has become a rallying point for the resurgent scene. Though it may be too soon to call the group the brass band of its generation, there’s certainly no stopping them. With a new album just out and festival season on the horizon, there’s plenty to talk about. Listen in…
