You know Clint Maedgen as the lead singer of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, or maybe as the mastermind of the New Orleans Bingo! Show. As if fronting what may be the two least similar bands in town wasn’t enough, Maedgen is also an accomplished photographer who’s been showing his work at the Scott Edwards Gallery since June, in an exhibit called “Numbers & Shadows”. The exhibit will remain open until October, but tonight (Thursday) at 6pm Maedgen will perform at the gallery in his solo acoustic guise, RADIOTRANMIXTURERADIO.

Maedgen’s sense of visual style should be obvious to anyone who’s seen the Bingo! Show or visited his website. While he hasn’t put his photography upfront before, he did contribute some lively tour photos to the PBJB website.
And the exhibition’s promo photo is striking indeed, contrasting the desolation of a quiet streetcorner with the splashy neon of Bourbon Street.
Visitors to Maegden’s exhibit can also check out “We Saw the Music,” featuring the work of legendary music photogapher Baron Wolman, which opened for Jazz Fest and has now moved to the gallery’s back room. And Maedgen can soon be heard on “That’s It!”, the new album from the PHJB.
“Numbers & Shadows” runs through October 5 at the Scott Edwards Gallery, 2109 Decatur St. at Frenchmen St.
Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday 12-8pm, and until Midnight on Friday and Saturday. Closed Sundays.
