Stomp Out The Stink on July 27

Can dancing edge out industrial pollution in the gulf coast? In New Orleans it can. The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is hosting their second annual “Stomp Out the Stink” Dance-A-Thon fundraiser on July 27 at Café Istanbul, where all ages and dance levels are invited to get down for the cause. So if the fear of judgment has ever prevented you from getting your wicked stanky-leg on, this is the time to flaunt it.

Crude Step 2-Step at the Louisiana Bucket Brigade "Stomp Out the Stink" Dance-A-Thon 2012

Registered teams will dance from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a jam packed schedule filled with dance lessons (ranging from Hip-hop, Brazilian, Belly Dancing, Bollywood, the Oil Burlesque and more), prizes, fun dancing games, delicious local food, a funky band, and hip DJs.

Each team, however, must raise a minimum of $45 to participate ($30 for kids 12 and under) by collecting pledges from family, friends, and fans. If unable to make the whole event, the fundraiser is also open to the public for $10 at the door. Prizes cannot be won by the public, but awesome dance moves will still be acknowledged.

In keeping with the Louisiana Bucket Brigade’s mission “to support communities’ use of grassroots action to create informed, sustainable neighborhoods free from industrial pollution,” the theme of the night is “Enchantment Under the Sheen,” so be sure to dress as your favorite sea creature that has been mutated by the BP oil spill.

All proceeds will benefit the Bucket Brigade’s battle for clean air and pollution free communities. Register your team here.
