WIN TICKETS: D.L. Hughley and
Eddie Griffin crack up the Saenger

Two of the most outspoken comedians around, D.L. Hughley and Eddie Griffin, are coming to the Saenger Theater on Friday, October 4. You can expect a sharp take on social and political issues from both, along with a few “did he really say that?”- type moments.

D.L. Hughley

D.L. Hughley

D.L. Hughley is a man who wants you to shut the f*ck up—He said as much in the title of his first book, which was published last year. Hughley recently took a mighty ninth place on Dancing With the Stars, but don’t hold that against him: His wit rather than footwork is his strong point.

Over the years he’s been saluted by Spike Lee (in the film The Original Kings of Comedy), talked politics with Jon Stewart and Jay Leno, and been the star on the ABC sitcom The Hughleys. And he’s perhaps best known for D.L. Hughley Breaks the News, a CNN show that proved more newsy than a lot of the network’s straight-ahead shows. The show included memorable moments with former White House press secretaries Scott McClellan and Ari Fleischer, as well as RNC chair Michael Steele.

Hughley is a sharp-eyed satirist who’s ruffled a few feathers in his time; let’s say he doesn’t always suffer fools or Republicans gladly. And though he’s done plenty of acting and mainstream TV by now, standup comedy remains his forte. As he’s said, “From the minute I first walked onstage and picked up a microphone, I knew that it was what I was meant to do.”

Eddie Griffin

Eddie Griffin

Named as one of the top 100 standup comics of all time by Comedy Central, Eddie Griffin started his career by taking the stage at a Kansas City comedy club on a dare, promising to do three minutes, and staying onstage for 45. He’s been in more than two dozen films including two installments of Deuce Bigalow; done ads for Miller Beer, and even rapped with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. His live standup DVD, You Can Tell ‘Em I Said It, was released in 2011.
