Trombone Shorty Foundation Featured On ABC World News With Diane Sawyer

It has been another banner month for Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. Back just this week from a session at the Red Bull Studios in New York City where he served as musical director for the Original Pinettes Brass Band‘s (the 2013 Red Bull “Street Queens”) first major recording there, he was also the focus of a special that aired yesterday, December 17, on ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer.

Trombone Shorty Foundation featured on ABC World News.

This time though, the television cameras were not capturing Shorty’s superstar moves or powerhouse horns. Instead, ABC traveled to New Orleans to follow Andrews and members of his Friends of Shorty Foundation around some of their music education sessions. Teachers and students alike are interviewed about their experiences in the program. Several discuss how they think the foundation’s music education program changes both the students’ and the teachers’ lives. The broadcast covers classroom epiphanies, touch moments and one of the youth band’s first concerts.
