Jazz in the Park Wraps up 2014 Series

Jazz in The Park returns to Armstrong Park for the free Spring Series’ final installment on Thursday, June 5, from 4-8 p.m.

The Pinettes Brass Band will perform from 5:00 to 6:15 p.m., with The Wild Magnolias closing out the evening when they take to the main stage from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

One Sound Brass Band, Seguenon Kone & Marissa Joseph African Drumming and Dance, and Lil Glenn + Backatown with Glen Hall III will perform on the Congo Kids stage.

An assortment of local vendors will also be in attendance, providing food and beverages along with crafts and clothing.

Due to rain, last weeks event was cancelled, but has been rescheduled for July 3rd to coincide with Essence Music Festival. Performers will include Daria and The Hip Drops and To Be Continued Brass Band.

As a special “thank you” to the Treme Neighborhood for it’s continued support of Jazz in The Park, People United for Armstrong Park have scheduled three free Block Parties for June 12th, 19th, and 26th.

Over the past five seasons, Jazz in The Park and People United for Armstrong Park have raised over $500,000 for musicians and performers, as well as another $500,000 in vendor sales.

Free  career training has been offered to 25 people in festival and music production. In 2014, Congo Kids was introduced, offering children the opportunity to learn dance, sound engineering and mastering as well as rhythms and drumming.
