Photos: Trombone Shorty and Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue teamed up with Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds for an irresistible double bill at the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, VA, on September 11th.

Shorty brought the high energy show that has built his band into a monster to a sold out house, playing through originals like “Hurricane Season,” “Buckjump,” “Something Beautiful,” and “On Your Way Down.”

One of the highlights came when 19 year old Stephanie Young, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University from Suffolk, VA, was invited up on stage from the audience to play with the band. Stephanie crushed her solo and left the crowd screaming frantically.

Brooklyn’s own Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds opened the night with a crushing set of super charged R&B and funk infused rock n roll.

A highlight of their set was when Orleans Avenue drummer Joey Peebles came up and sat in with the band, powering through a two drummer piece that also lit a fire under the crowd.
