The Farmer’s Market in the French Market will feature fresh produce, cooking demonstrations, and a host of other activities each week.

The events will be designed to cater to the needs of both the visitors and the locals that shop the French Market weekly.

“What we know is that residents really want to see produce first and foremost, and that tourists want to see grab and go items first and foremost,” Market Umbrella Executive Director of Kate Parker said. “So we’re going to have both, because we recognize that we have to keep both populations happy.”

After extensive research, Parker said Market Umbrella decided to present a variety of different options that fit the tone of the historic open air market.

“We’ve researched the heck out of this issue,” she said. “We’ve talked to residents in and out of the French Quarter, we surveyed tourists in the French Market, we did shopper cards, we’ve talked to chefs, we did a lot of work to get here.”

The Farmer’s Market will be held every Wednesday from 2-6 p.m., beginning October 15.

The addition of the French Market location extends the reach of the Crescent City Farmer’s Market to four days each week, with a Tuesday market Uptown in Tulane University Square, the French Market on Wednesdays, a Mid City market at the American Can Company on Thursdays, and a Saturday morning market Downtown at Magazine and Girod Streets.

There will also be Moonlight Market fundraising event on Saturday, October 11, at 725 Magazine Street.
