Prostpect.3

Prospect.3 Notes for NowProspect.3 will hold a series of events to celebrate their opening weekend. The festivities will begin with P3: “Notes for Now” on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. “Notes for Now” will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and second line in Washington Square Park, located at 700 Elysian Fields Avenue.

Following the procession, the owner of Dooky Chase’s Restaurant, will host a luncheon in the park.The opening ceremony will take place at The Contemporary Arts Center, located at 900 Camp St., on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Guests can expect dinner, dancing, and the presentation of the Artadia Award with Champions of Culture. P3 will also be hosting a block party in the St. Claude art district on Saturday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Do It Yourself

Community Records will host their 7th annual D.I.Y music festival at the Carver Theatre on Saturday at noon. This year features an all day event with two stages and 23 bands and performers including Caddywhompus, Donovan Wolfington, All People, Screaming Females, and many others.

Happy Birthday Mahalia

Mahalia Jackson’s birthday ceremony will take place on Saturday at The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park at 916 N. Peters St., from noon until 4 p.m. There will be live music, film showings, and lectures celebrating the New Orleans legend on her birthday.

Will You Voodoo?

Voodoo On The Bayou will take place on Saturday at the historic Pitot House, 1440 Moss St., 8:30 p.m. to midnight. This costume gala will include a silent auction fundraiser, fortunetellers, and live music from Lips & The Trips and Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington. All proceeds will go to support community projects such as Desmare Playground, the NOPD First District, Bounty on the Bayou Children’s Halloween event, the Re-Bridge project, and much more. The event is open to the public and admission is $50 per person in advance or $60 at the door. Tickets are available at Terranova’s, Swirl Wines, Pal’s or online at www.fsjna.org.

Halloween Themed Burlesque

Slow Burn Burlesque presents “Showghouls” at The Howlin’ Wolf on Saturday, 10 p.m. to midnight. “Showghouls” is a Halloween themed striptese extravaganza with performances from Nona Narcisse, Little Luna, Ginger Licious, Roxie le Rouge, Ruby Rage, and Lady Lucerne, with more to be announced.

Got to See the Special Men

Fans of King James & the Special Men will get a chance to see the band outside of their Monday night residency at BJ’s in The Bywater. The band will be performing at the old US Mint, located at 400 Esplanade, on Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $10.
