Why are we here?
I wanted to try this location. I live in Lakeview and go to the Wasabi that’s out there all the time. It’s the exact same menu, as it turns out.
Did you always like sushi?
There was this guy, Steve. I met him when he used to work at Ninja on Oak Street. I used to work at the Rue de la Course, and after the morning shift we’d go get lunch at Ninja. When Steve moved to Wasabi in Lakeview, I would walk in and say, “Whatever you have that’s the freshest.” Sea urchin, tuna… I eat it all, except that I’m not into the sweet egg thing. I used to be afraid of sea urchin, but then he told me that it was like eating mayonnaise that came out of the ocean. Now I love it. I had it in Japan, too. I was on tour with Youth Lagoon in February last year and we played a show in Tokyo, opening up for the National. I had the best green tea ever there. It was so thick and awesome. It was like drinking grass.Wasabi
