The 11th Annual Ezra Open charity event will take place on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Harrah’s Casino Theater. Jonathan Silverman and Jennifer Finnigan will be serving as co-chairs for the event.
Over the years the Ezra Open has raised for the BTEFoundation over $850,000 donating the funds to support the Preservation Resource Center, New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA), the Make it Right Foundation and the Audubon Nature Institute.
“We did a few charitable events including golf tournaments in the beginning,” explains Better Than Ezra’s Tom Drummond. “But it really kicked up a notch after Katrina when Kevin and I started the Foundation, he says. “Everybody was trying to put their lives back together, and we wanted to help people and help the city. The fire department had a difficult time getting parts, for example,” Drummond continues. “They were getting stuff stolen off the trucks. It was a crazy time. We’ve done a lot of good for the city, and I’m very happy about that.”
Most recently the BTE Foundation has adopted Bethune Elementary in the Holly Grove neighborhood of New Orleans where the foundation has donated school supplies and built an educational playground for the children. The Foundation has also donated funds to support the Louisiana SPCA, CrimeStoppers and the ALS/Gleason Initiative.
