Mid-City Lanes Rock ‘n’ Bowl celebrates thirty years of Zydeco Thursdays

On November 19, 1992, one of the newest music clubs in New Orleans, Mid-City Lanes Rock ’n’ Bowl, introduced Zydeco Thursday to the local music scene and it hasn’t stopped since. Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas performed that night and to celebrate the 30th anniversary, they will perform at the club on Thursday, November 17, at 8 p.m.

Over the years, many zydeco acts have graced the stage at Rock ‘n’ Bowl,  including Rockin’ Dopsie Sr., Buckwheat Zydeco, C.J. Chenier, John Delafose, Geno Delafose and many, many more.  Rock ‘n’ Bowl has also hosted epic musical battles with the popular “Battle of the B’s”—a showdown between legendary artists Boozoo Chavis and Beau Jocque.

Even throughout the pandemic, Rock ‘n’ Bowl still supported zydeco with live-streaming concerts of Geno Delafose & the French Rockin’ Boogie as well as Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band.

Nathan Williams formed The Cha Chas back in 1985, and since then has brought his unique take on zydeco to all corners of the globe. From Lincoln Center in New York to The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Williams’ music has crossed all barriers to speak to the very heart of his audience. Inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2005, he was honored in 2015Ro with the Zydeco Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The Cha Chas have been voted the top Festival Band in the country, and have won a Best of The Beat Award and a Big Easy award for Best Zydeco Band.
