I also cringed at the “Strange Fruit” cover. As a music magazine, you should have known better than to use this reference. Maybe “color blindness” is a worthy goal, but we are so not there yet.

Check Mayer out if you're lucky enough to have him come visit your town. He is a great entertainer/performer, his band is talented and tight, and the magic word is FUN! He totally put on a wicked good time in Boston.

The CD's Web site says, "Songwriters were chosen from around the world to win a spot on this CD." I'm not sure what 'chosen ... to win a spot' means in this case, but that gave me reason to believe the writers were not from the area. Jenny Brooks is, which I acknowledged when I reviewed her album.

As for "Mississippi Queen" - in the original review, the phrase isn't in quotation marks, which indicates that the phrase isn't a direct quote but an indication of the sort of cliche found on the album. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear.

Regarding cliches and the rest of your post, I stand by my review.

Hey jackhole…where are you looking?? December's issue featured a VERY talented young musician named Kermit Ruffins and January featured the GREAT Deacon John. Not to mention the article in the March issue that was ALL about the New Orleans Hip Hop scene. Open your close-minded eyes…we will NEVER be able to move forward with people like you spewing negativity FOREVER. As one very interesting blogger wrote, “Why do we continue to major in these minor issues?”
