Kingstonlogic 2.0

If nothing else, Terry Lynn’s Kingstonlogic 2.0 (Last Gang) says that Jamaica can still be a dangerous place. As the title suggests, though, this is a contemporary expression of street life, as she’s accompanied by spare, hard electrobeats that have a lot more to do with the British electronic dance and hip-hop subdivisions than reggae or dub. It’s tempting to hear Terry Lynn as akin to M.I.A., but M.I.A. works with a far more varied and ambitious musical palate. Lynn makes her austerity work to her advantage, though. Everything seems meaningful and important, including dancing and staying alive. And Jamaican ganja cliches are blown away in the process.
