Bruce Pierre, Just to Love You (Bedzin Productions)

Appearance-wise, Bruce Pierre could possibly pass for one of the Neville Brothers.
He has performed with them on occasions, which further solidifies the connection.
And his sweet, controlled falsetto voice—though not as unique and polished
as Aaron’s—shines in its own right on most of the tracks on this
CD. Working closely with keyboardist/producer/arranger Edward “Matt Bedzin” Matthews
on each cut, Pierre is a rising star on the local Urban Contemporary scene. Every
track is an original by either Matthews, Pierre or the two of them combined.
Furnishing both lead and backing vocals, Pierre has a smooth, mellow, romantic
sound worthy of airplay. The opening cut, titled “My Love” features
a pretty, Kenny G-like accompaniment by Reggie Murray (of the groups Rhino and
Vieux Carré) on soprano sax and who, unfortunately, is heard no more after
that. Overall, the CD, recorded at Loyola University’s Studio 47, is
a commendable effort.
