Dee-1 Releases Video for “Sallie Mae Back,” a Hip-Hop Anthem About Paying Off Student Loans

Dee-1 sure as hell picked a good time to drop the video for his latest track, “Sallie Mae Back.” It’s not every day that you get to see a banging video for a hip-hop anthem about paying off your student loans. But then again, it’s not every day that the State of Louisiana announces it can no longer afford its most important scholarship program either.

The video–directed by Colin Pierce and produced by Justen Williams–finds the New Orleans rapper (who picked up a 2015 Best of the Beat Award for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist) celebrating his new debt-free life, while pointing out the absurd price of student loans. It’s fun, it’s political, it’s topical and it’s been viewed by over 250,000 people on Facebook in the last 24 hours.

So to everyone who’s ever struggled to make that monthly payment, gone through a FAFSA nightmare or wondered why it costs so damn much just to get educated–this one’s for you.
