Community Records Announces 10th Anniversary Concerts

Next month brings an exciting moment for local label Community Records. In collaboration with WTUL 91.5 fm and Gold Flake Paint, the label will be celebrating their 10th anniversary with a series of exciting shows on March 9, 10, and 11. Founded in 2008 by Daniel Ray and Greg Rodrigue, Community Records has set out poised to change the music industry from within. They offer all of their music for free download online, holding fast to the belief that music should be accessible and open to all. Since its conception, the label has succeeded in distributing the music of the city without the traditional restrictions between artist and audience, and give wider exposure to local artists.

The anniversary party kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 9 at Hey! Cafe, stacked with back-to-back sets from Sexy Dex & The Fresh, Treadles, Mean Girls, Poppies, and Brnda. The show asks for a $5-$10 donation and is open to all ages. On Saturday, March 10, the celebration will be taking over Gasa Gasa on Freret. The second installment will be a day show featuring an even wider range of artists, headlined by Jeff Rosenstock, Laura Stevenson, and Pears. That show is already sold out, but tickets for March 9 and 11 are still available, but only for walk ups. $1 for each ticket will be donated to Eden House, New Orleans. The final show on Sunday goes out with a bang at 6 p.m. at Hey! Cafe with headliners Habitat, Washer, and Bethlehem Steel. The last day of celebration is an all-ages show and asks for a $5-$10 donation. All attendees will get a free copy of Saddle Creek/Community Records 2018 mixtape.
