It was a big night for OffBeat at the Press Club of New Orleans awards, held July 20 at the Theatre inside Harrah’s Casino and Resort downtown. OffBeat and its staff won six awards, including one of the night’s biggest, the Hal Ledet Award for Print Photography, which went to OffBeat photographer Golden G. Richard III.
In addition to this award, Richard won Best Still Photography Feature for Do Clothes Make The Man?: Bo Dollis & Monk Boudreaux. Elsa Hahne, a past winner of the Ledet Award, was honored this year for Best Still Photography Portrait for Ingrid Lucia: Life After Death. Hahne also won for Best Inforgraphic with Full Coverage: 25 Years of OffBeat Magazine. Contributor Molly McGuire won for Best Editorial Illustration with Preservation Hall Jazz Band of New Orleans: 50th Anniversary.
Finally, OffBeat’s Weekly Beat, a frequent winner as Best Email Update took first prize again this year, for the fifth year in a row. The hudges noted that it provides information “about a wide range of musical and cultual events, with links for readers who want more info. The format and layout makes the newsletter easy to read.” Thank you judges, and thank you for the recognition for our hard work.
