Dolores T. Aaron Academy to lay musical groundwork at Spring Concert

Practice, practice and even more practice is being thrown into play as students at Dolores T. Aaron Academy (DTA) work on their final rehearsals for their upcoming Spring Concert. With rehearsals in full swing from April 8-12, the students of DTA are getting ready to put on a show full of musical masterpieces that showcase the unbelievable talent of the young musicians participating in the New Orleans band.

The sixty students in the DTA have prepared all year for this one night on Wednesday, April 17 and are excited to show New Orleans guests their high level of musicianship. The concert will feature the DTA Concert Band, DTA “Young Heroes” Brass Band, and guest artists ranging from the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra’s NOJO 7 to Preservation Hall’s Kevin Louis.

The concert will hold a very special place for one member in particular- Michael Woodcox, the last remaining member of the original DTA band. Woodcox was the youngest member of the group in the band when it began five years ago. As just a young third grader then, Woodcox has grown with the DTA band and is now a strong leader as the group’s drum major and most senior member. For Andy Bower, the band director who has been with Michael every step of the way, this night will mean watching a member who has helped to establish and build the program at DTA move on but never let his achievements within the band be forgotten.

The performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. on April 17 at Dolores T Aaron Academy, 10200 Curran Blvd.
