New Orleans superstar Anders Osborne has been selected to co-headline the HeadCount Participation Tour along with Crescent City natives Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk.
The tour, set to make stops in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and New York City on November 2,3, 4, and 5, respectively, is a collaboration between Magic Hat Brewing Company and the national voter registration group HeadCount. The concert series aims to promote responsible voter registration and encourage an open dialogue about what makes voters passionate about politics.
Osborne, on tour in support of his new album Black Eye Galaxy (Alligator Records), has built a career around his soulful lyricism and superb guitarmanship. The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, he was named OffBeat‘s Best Guitarist in both 2010 and 2011, as well as Best Roots Rock Artist in 2011.
Road warriors Dumpstaphunk and its signature double bass ass-ault have long been favorites on the jam band circuit. Frontman Ivan Neville is OffBeat’s most recent Best Piano/Keyboardist Best of the Beat award recipient, and his band, a past two-time Best Funk/R&B Band winner. Bottom line: When there’s a party, Dumpstaphunk brings it.
Though the election is yet to be decided, with Anders and Ivan leading the way, there’s sure to be plenty of New Orleans funk lining the road to the White House. For more information or to register to volunteer at one of these events, visit HeadCount’s web site.
