Anders Osborne Jams with Members of Grateful Dead, Phish

Anders Osborne took part in one hell of an all star jam session when he joined members of the Grateful Dead and Phish on Saturday evening.

The merging of musical minds took place at Arrington, VA’s Lockn’ Festival, where the New Orleans guitarist took the stage with Phil Lesh and Friends. For those of you who aren’t aware, that project has brought Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh together with a rotating cast of musicians on countless occasions since Jerry Garcia passed away in 1995. Saturday’s performance marked the latest collaboration between Lesh and Osborne, who last teamed up for a benefit concert in San Rafael, CA this past June.

Saturday’s incarnation of Phil Lesh and Friends was one for the ages, as Osborne and Lesh were joined by Phish drummer Jon Fishman, Phish keyboardist Page McConnell, drummer extraordinaire Joe Russo and the entirety of bluegrass outfit The Infamous Stringdusters. Osborne was on stage for most of the set, including renditions of “Scarlet Begonias,” “Uncle John’s Band,” “Shakedown Street” (which he sang) and “Terrapin Station.”

Saturday’s show also featured a guest appearance from former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Derek Trucks and his wife/Tedeschi Trucks Band co-leader, Susan Tedeschi. The pair joined the fray for “Mr. Charlie” and “Sugaree,” though Osborne sat both those numbers out because it just doesn’t make sense to have four guitarists and a banjo player on stage at once.

The Lockn’ Festival brought its collaborative spirit to Arrington, VA’s Oak Ridge Farm from Thursday, August 25 to Sunday, August 28. The jam band-friendly festival featured two headlining performances from Phish, as well as sets from My Morning Jacket, Galactic with Lee Oskar, a Phil Lesh and Friends lineup that featured the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Gary Clark Jr., Ween, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Umphrey’s McGee, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Lettuce and many more.

Here’s a look at the setlist from Osborne’s collaboration with Phil Lesh and Friends:
