This Saturday, September 16, the nonprofit arts organization Art Klub is hosting its grand opening fundraiser. “RISE” serves to announce Art Klub’s programming for the 2017-18 Cultural Season and to showcase the many art forms and cultural opportunities offered by the organization.
The evening will feature the music of The Preservation All-Stars plus upright bass superstar James Singleton and The Ole Man River Band, featuring Sherman Bernard Jr. on keyboards. MC Sweet Tea will rock the crowd into the late night party and Jimbo will spin the evening into an old-school house party. Live performances will be staged by Artivism Dance Theatre, FLOCK dance, Daniel Masterpiece Jones, Radical Buffoon(s), The Reese Johanson Collective, Rockfire Theatre and Vagabond Inventions. Also included is the Prospect 4: Scavengers Artist Collective and visual artist Jacqueline Ehle Inglefield, who most recently exhibited at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Ms. Inglefield will unveil a preview of her installation that will be fully realized for Art Klub’s Prospect 4 exhibition, “Scavengers,” open
Art Klub is also celebrating its tenth anniversary and remains focused on offering an inclusive space aimed at cultivating creativity and engaging communities through artist residencies, performances, events, affordable rehearsal and meeting spaces, classes, workshops and community programming for all ages.
RISE takes place at Art Klub’s spacious performance venue at 1941 Arts Street, on the corner of North Johnson, one block down on the river side of North Galvez. The event runs from 7p.m.-1a.m. Ticket prices range; attendees have the option of $50 for two persons (including specialty cocktails) and $20 per person (cocktails not included). Those interested in only attending the late-night party (10p.m.-1a.m.) may do so by purchasing $15 tickets. Those who purchase tickets in advance have the option of choosing to apply 20% of the purchase price as a donation to one of the following organizations: Artivism Dance Theatre, Couches/DOPEciety, Dancing Grounds, Gulf Coast Playwrights/ Dramatists Guild Foundation, Goat in the Road Productions, FLOCK dance, Fly Movement Salon, Krewe de Lune, New Orleans Dance Network, NOLA Jewels, The Radical Buffoons, Rockfire Theatre, Nari Tomassetti Presents, Upturn Arts, or Vagabond Inventions.
