Bastille Day Fête brings the tradition French celebration to New Orleans

For the past five years, one of the best places to be on Bastille Day is New Orleans thanks to Bastille Day Fête, a festival that celebrates the French holiday with a New Orleans twist. The festival starts July 14 and takes place around the city throughout the weekend.

Home base for the festival this year will be at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). On Friday, July 15, there will be a free general admission to the outdoor part of the festival and $5 for the events taking place inside NOMA.

Some of the festival events include musical performances by The Lost Bayou Ramblers, Bon Bon Vivant, and Giselle Bonfaire. The festival will also feature a light show on the museum, a French cooking demonstration, quick French lessons, and festival-goers can even opt to take tours of the museum in English or French. There is even a separate kids program sponsored by The French Library as well. Dogs are also invited to dress up and participate in the French Dog Contest. Like all great New Orleans events, there will be great food put on by Cafe Degas, St. James Cheese Company, Breads on Oak, and many more.

However if you cannot make it Friday, lucky for you, they have events going on all weekend. On Saturday, there will be a Bastille Day Regatta at the New Orleans Yacht Club and, on Sunday, there will be the Bastille Day Extravaganza Musical Celebration featuring artists like The Merry Antoinettes and many more.
