Jump, Jive an’ Jazz With Big Bad Voodoo Daddy At Old U.S. Mint

On Saturday, October 7, the California-born jazz and swing-revival band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will find itself making a pilgrimage of sorts to one of the birthplaces of its tradition with a performance at the Old U.S. Mint. The performance is part of the Louisiana Museum Foundation’s 2017 gala, Jump, Jive an’ Jazzin’.

The multi-platinum selling and Grammy-nominated band’s most recent album, Louie, Louie, Louie, is a pilgrimage in its own right as it delves into the to the roots of jazz with a tribute to some of the genre’s legends, Louis Prima, Louis Jordan and New Orleans’s own Louis Armstrong. On the album, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy recreates some of the men’s foundational works that helped establish the musical tradition on which the band stands today. The track listing is as follows:

“We really want people to know about these great men that have so deeply influenced us as, and perhaps help spark a new creative interest in them and their music,” lead vocalist and guitarist Scotty Morris said in a press release. Other members of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy are dummer Kurt Sodergren, bass player Dirk Shumaker, saxophonist Andy Rowley, trumpet player Glen “The Kid” Marhevka, tenor sax man Karl Hunter, pianist Joshua Levy, and trombone player Alex Henderson.

Advance tickets are available for purchase for $75-$1,500 through Friday, October 6 at 11:59p.m. local time. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door starting at $75. Food will be provided by local favorites including Acme Oyster House, Antoine’s, Marigny Brasserie, Muriel’s, Red Fish Grill, and Tableau.
