Brooklyn Rider to Bring Modern Take on Classical Music to New Orleans

New Orleans Friends of Music will bring genre-defying string quartet Brooklyn Rider to the Big Easy next month.

The group, which blends modern rock sensibilities with classical chamber music, is known for its energetic shows, eclectic collaborations and enthusiasm for bringing classical music to the masses. They will play the House of Blues New Orleans’ Foundation Room during a special event on Monday, January 11 before headlining Tulane University’s Dixon Hall on Tuesday, January 12.

In recent years, Brooklyn Rider has performed at Lincoln Center and South by Southwest, collaborated with the likes of Bela Fleck, Yo-Yo Ma, Philip Glass and Dawn Upshaw, and appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts.

The Dixon Hall concert wil feature a program of contemporary composers, as well as a rendition of Franz Schubert’s famed “Rosamunde Quartet” (aka String Quartet No. 13). Tickets will be available for $35, though there will be discounts for young professionals ($18) and students (free for Tulane students, $5 for others).

The Foundation Room performance will be a more intimate affair, while VIP ticketholders will be treated to a three-course dinner with the band. General admission tickets are on sale for $50, with VIP tickets going for $120.

New Orleans Friends of Music’s 2015-16 season will continue with show from the Goldstein-Peled-Fiterstein Trio (February 24), Angela Hewitt, piano (March 16), and the Imani Winds (April 18).
