Burlesque Imitates Art At One-Of-A-Kind Event

burlesque imitates artBurlesque dancing and local art: what better combination for a night of classy debauchery? Let loose on April 21, when Bar Redux teams up with Honey Tangerine for a one-of-a-kind event: Burlesque Imitates Art-The Red List. The New Orleans-based queen of burlesque Miss Honey Tangerine, known for her eclectic costume design and Brechtian performance style, has been making rounds at burlesque festivals around the country. She is the founder of the collaborate arts experience Burlesque Imitates Art, which “seeks to provide an all-inclusive platform for artists and performers to come together in order to create unique and challenging works of art.” The collaborative organizes regular events at venues in New Orleans to support the artistic community.

“Aimed at Art Appreciators, Burlesque Enthusiasts, Nature Lovers and everyone in between,” the upcoming event will showcase the works of seven local artists: Bryce Landry, Frances Wertimer, Peter John Ladetto, Adrienne Battistella, April D. Herrera, Honey Tangerine and Kevin Comarda. The audience will have the opportunity to experience collaboration in action. Each act will be a dual visual and performance art spectacle, featuring a statement from each artist with a performance accompanied by their assigned dancer. The performances will share a common thread under the blanket theme of animal conservation, to be interpreted freely by each individual artist.

The opening party and show will begin at 9 p.m. on Bar Redux at 801 Poland in the Bywater. A $15 cover charge will be collected at the door.
