CHATnola Opens New Youth Recording Studio

New Orleans’ CHATProject is opening a new recording studio at Tulane Towers,  2601 Tulane Ave., on Friday, June 14. The project’s mission is to offer young musicians, DJ’s, producers and music fans an accessible creation center for new music in the city.

CHAT is a youth-led project that reaches peers (ages 13-19) in the greater New Orleans area with a goal of bringing awareness to HIV/AIDS and STI prevention, transmission, and risk-reduction. The project has positively influenced teens through social media, art, outreach, advocacy, and free HIV testing and educational sessions. CHAT hopes to achieve a higher profile in the community through initiatives such as the new recording studio that stress the engagement of youth in creative media.  The organization also hosts workshops on topics like protection and healthy relationships, as well as provides volunteer opportunities in community outreach and creativity session management.

This is really great. This makes recordings more accessible
to the youth. And I guess it would be a great way to bring the youth to music
rather than to other non-productive acts.
