On Saturday, April 16, local indie/punk/ska label Community Records threw its fourth annual Block Party in front of the Big Top, headlined by California punk band Rx Bandits, who had announced only four days earlier that their current tour would be their last. A Kickstarter campaign met its fundraising goal to film this year’s Block Party for a DVD release, but you won’t have to wait that long if you missed it—photographer Adrienne Battistella was on hand and sent us these photos from the Block Party. You can see more of her work on her Facebook profile.

In other Community Records news, the label released a benefit compilation, Head Above Water, last week on the anniversary of the BP Deepwater Horizon explosion. The album was released to help keep attention on the BP Oil Spill recovery one year after the disaster. In addition to over 36 songs from the Community, Asian Man (CA), Plan-It-X (IN), and Quote Unquote (NY) record labels, the downloadable compilation also features essays, photos of the damage, and more about the Spill. Many of the songs are included are exclusive to this release.

Although it’s a free download, you’re highly encouraged to donate to the label’s recovery charity of choice, the Gulf Restoration Network, if you enjoy the album (or even if you don’t). Head HERE to download Head Above Water.
