Cyril Neville, ‘Supreme Beings’ to be celebrated at special event

Earlier this year, the Meters were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy. As such, band member Cyril Neville contributed greatly to the legacy of the New Orleans funk icons and his significant role in earning the band its special GRAMMY is the focus of a special event next month.

Abstract NOLA—the creative team behind the monthly Concert + Market series previously profiled by OffBeat—has teamed up with Massive Amounts of Quality (MAQ) to highlight Cyril’s singular talents. The event is, essentially three-pronged: it will honor Mr. Neville with a special ceremony, celebrate two-time GRAMMY winner Irvin Mayfield, and celebrate MAQ’s latest release, Supreme Beings (produced by Mr. Mayfield).

Organizers say there will be a GRAMMYs representative on site to give Mr. Neville an honorary certificate recognizing his Recording Academy award.

The evening will be separated into two distinct events. First, there will be a performance from some of the talent on Supreme Beings, arguably one of the year’s standout hip-hop offerings from New Orleans. Don Flamingo, Nesby Phips, Paasky, MadeGroceries, Kourtney Heart and more will hit the stage for the performance, which is invite only except for a few VIP experiences.

This takes place at a Ritz Carlton penthouse.

Following the Supreme Beings event is The Afterparty, which is open to the public. There, some of the city’s pre-eminent DJs—Raj Smoove, RQ Away, Legatron Prime and more—will spin music from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m.

The Afterparty takes place at the Angela King Gallery (241 Royal St.). To RSVP for the Afterparty or reserve a VIP experience for the Supreme Beings event, visit www.abstractnola.com.
