DanFest Lends the NooMoon Tribe a Helping Hand

Updated: The NooMoon tribe looked to have good thing going this summer at their yearly music festival in Michigan. They managed to book some big acts, among them Of Montreal, Kool Keith, Trombone Shorty, and the Eagles of Death Metal. But it was not to be. Flooding put a stop to two of the festival’s planned three days, and when the waters subsided the tribe was left with a stack of bills, including Tokyo Police Club’s fee, which they collected despite having canceled their performance.

NooMoon has long been known for putting on free music festivals in New Orleans, events that they are usually forced to dip into their own pockets to fund, especially the “Land of Nod” adjunct festival at Voodoo, which made room for some extra local acts. That’s why this Sunday, October 17, Dragon’s Den is hosting DanFest, a fundraiser to help NooMoon stay in business. A big list of performers will include Happy Talk Band, Mikronaut, the Ratty Scurvics Quintet, and R. Scully’s Rough “Several”.

And don’t worry Who Dats: the event is scheduled to begin ‘after the Saints game’, whenever that may be. Tickets are $10 at the door, and will go towards helping NooMoon defray their expenses and keep the music coming at future festivals. Other acts include Gris Gris Strut Dance Team, Rob Cambre and Dummy Dumpster.

Below is a video of Ratty Scurvics performing with the Black Market Butchers at a NooMoon event earlier this year.

NooMoon’s Dan Sheridan sent the following correction:

1. The first two days of the festival went on despite the flash flooding.
The crowds were low and logistics were difficult due to the flooding and
rain but short of a couple sets washed out the show went on all weekend.

2. Tokyo Police Club did not cancel their performance. The stage roof was
lowered and the sound system was shut down due to safety concerns from the
storm during the scheduled time slot for TPC. The band grabbed their
guitars and ran in the rain to the dining tent where a group of lucky fans
gathered and were treated to an intimate acoustic performance.

Lounge (but was not a NOOMOON Event)
