Deutsches Haus New Orleans hosts its first Oktoberfest on Moss St.

The finished Deutsches Haus building hosts its first Oktoberfest

Get ready to stuff your face with sauerkraut and have your beer steins overflowing. OktoberFest comes back to New Orleans tomorrow, October 4. The new Deutsches Haus grounds have been open for nearly a year, but this will be the first OktoberFest at its completed Bayou St. John location. The fest will be held October 4-5, 11-12 and 18-19.

Twenty-eight German beers, 24 Schnapps, and 11 wines will be available at the event. The beers have been brewed by the Urban South brewery, as well as many others imported from Germany. There will also be a new Oktoberfest bier brewed by Bitburger in partnership with Sierra Nevada at the craft beer booth.

Many of last year’s events will be offered this year, including Oompah music, dancing, a beer-stein holding contest, dachshund race, and pet- and family-friendly fun. The New Orleans Advocate’s Adrienne Underwood lists more of what Oktoberfest will offer here. The Fest will kick off at 4 every Friday and at 1 every Saturday. On October 6, Oktoberfest will have a two-mile run starting at 12 p.m. Late registration is still possible at the New Orleans Track Club office at 11 a.m. the day of the race. The $35 ticket will give you entry to the race and Oktoberfest that day.

Tickets for each day are $8, and can be paid in cash at the entrance. The Deutsches Haus will also offer access to its new 500 plus person capacity interior with its Condor Air Premium Pass. Pass holders can take a break from the festival grounds and enjoy an open bar, German food buffet and air-conditioning. Advance passes can still be purchased here, starting at $90 for adult non-members. Cabrini High school and the Deutsches Haus will offer parking as space permits for $10 and $20, respectively. There are also public transportation options available to the 1700 Moss St. location.
