Today (December 14), Erica Falls is lending her voice to a holiday classic, in her rendition of “Angels We Have Heard On High.”

Premiering at OffBeat.com, Falls’ version of the 1862 song written by James Chadwick is imbued with soulful, vintage tinges.

“I’ve always wanted to record a Christmas tune and I figured it was about time,” says Falls. “This song takes me back to when I was in my high-school chorus. We would go to hotels, nursing homes and churches to perform Christmas carols and this one was always my favorite to sing.”

Released via Louisiana Red Hot Records, the song’s arrangement came to Erica while she slept. Together with guitarists Chris Adkins and Joy Clark, Falls began recording the cover. The session was tracked by GRAMMY-winning engineer David Farrell at New Orleans’ 636 Studios.

Of her musical cohorts, Falls says, “They added their magic and together we created a wonderful expression of this traditional Christmas song – they truly helped to bring what was inside my head to fruition.”

On December 31, New Year’s Eve, Erica Falls will perform with her former band, Galactic. Together, they’ll bring in 2019 at Tipitina’s. In January, she’ll be part of an all-star lineup of performers on the Jam Cruise.
