New Art Garden to Open on Frenchmen Street

The Art Garden, a new artist-run business, is coming to Frenchmen Street. A grand opening event will take place this Thursday, December 10.

The family-owned project has utilized an abandoned brick lot and graffiti fence on Frenchmen Street and converted it into a space for an outdoor art gallery, daytime market and creative area where the family will showcase their work: mosaics, photography, paintings and mixed media.

The gallery back fence will feature monthly shows from individual artists, along with a rotating sculpture garden. The first featured exhibition will include work from painters Kate Hanrahan, Heather Jean and sculptor Andre LaSalle.

The family also plans to maintain a “floating gallery” project, which will help launch and promote other fine artists, as well as host handmade jewelers, creative nonprofits, fine crafts and cultural vendors in four to eight revolving spots.

The Grand Opening event will feature guests Amzie Adams and Spiritwalker. The gallery will be open on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Sundays 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Art Garden is located at 613 Frenchmen Street, in the Marigny triangle, between Adolfo’s Restaurant and the Frenchmen Art Market. More visuals can be found at artgardennola.com, and you can follow the project via facebook.com/floatinggallerynola.
