Fats Domino Family To Light The Roosevelt Lobby To Honor His Memory

One of our city’s storied traditions in acknowledgment of the holiday season’s beginnings will include a piece of a beloved icon this year. On Tuesday, November 28 the Fats Domino family will serve as the official lobby lighters of one of New Orleans’ most beloved holiday displays.

In honor of the memory of one of rock ‘n’ roll’s pioneers, Fats’ family will flip the switch to light the Waldorf Wonderland at the Roosevelt New Orleans. Taking place promptly at 5:15p.m., the lighting ceremony will be followed by a champagne toast honoring Fats, who performed frequently at the Blue Room at the Fairmont, what is now the Roosevelt New Orleans. The family of Fats Domino will serve as the official lobby lighters, and honor the memory of one of the most talented pioneers of rock and roll music, who played often in the hotel’s historic Blue Room.

The public is invited to join in transforming The Roosevelt New Orleans’ beloved block-long lobby into a canopy of more than 60,000 twinkling lights, 46 Christmas trees, 22 birch trees and 30 feet of garland. This gorgeous display tells a spirited story, showcasing the best of New Orleans and the holidays through a classic theme designed to wow crowds each year. Guests are welcomed to revel in the display through New Year’s Day. The event is free, open to the public and will feature entertainment and refreshments.
