Fest Season Two-Steps On With Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival

After slurping their way through Oyster Festival last weekend, New Orleans’ summer festers get ready to put on their dancing shoes and sweat it out at this weekend’s Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival, which runs from Saturday, June 6th to Sunday, June 7th at Louis Armstrong Park.

This popular celebration of Louisiana’s cultural and musical heritage, now in its 9th year, is one of four free festivals put on at the park by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation during the year.

Others include the Congo Square Rhythms Festival in March, the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival in October, and the Treme Creole Gumbo Festival in November.

The upcoming Cajun-Zydeco Fest will feature an art market, an array of food vendors, a new activity tent for kids, and, of course, a top-notch collection of performers.

“This festival contains the greatest collection of Cajun and zydeco artists for any festival in the city and perhaps the state,” said Charles Laborde, the host of WWOZ’s weekly Cajun and zydeco radio show “Lache Pas,” in a press release.

Fans of Louisiana roots music certainly won’t be disappointed by this year’s lineup, featuring headliners Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas, Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience, and the Lost Bayou Ramblers.

The food vendors will provide a large selection of delicious seafood, Cajun specialties, desserts, and more.

This year, they include Any O’Cajun, Direct Select Seafood, Divine Cuisine, J’s Seafood Dock, Lasyone’s Meat Pies, Palmer’s Cuisine, Saucy’s, The JuJu Bag Cafe, Woody’s Fish Tacos, Beaucoup Juice Snoballs, Fame Confectionary, La Divina Gelateria, and Meltdown Pops.

To view the full vendor menus or find out more about the 25 participating art market vendors, visit the Jazz and Heritage Foundation website here.

Parking will be available in the Basin Street Lot (501 Basin Street) for $10 per vehicle or at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for $15 per vehicle. Alternatively, the 91 bus passes right by the park.

The festival prohibits audio and visual recording, outside food and beverages, and pets.

Chairs, however, are welcome, as are donations.
