Generationals Free Trust EP Download & Free Show Friday

Generationals have been the New Orleans indie world’s biggest success story in recent times, garnering critical praise, landing songs in national TV commercials, and even joining heavyweights Ted Leo and Elf Power on an Apples in Stereo covers project (they did the classic song “Ruby”).

The duo of New Orleans natives, multi-instrumentalists Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer, has been busy recently finishing their upcoming LP Actor-Caster, while also playing shows around the country and releasing a 4-song EP, Trust (stream the EP here, or scroll a little farther to download the EP free through Friday).

Trust provides a quick dose of what the Generationals do best: catchy pop hooks, shimmery guitars, and foot-tapping drum riffs. The bright title track fits with the best of the Elephant Six collective, while the chugging “Say for Certain” balances its deep bass line with music box bells and pretty female vocal harmonies.

If those 4 songs leaving you wanting more you’ll be glad to hear that Friday, January 14, Generationals are returning to New Orleans with a special treat for local fans: a show at Blue Nile with no cover charge. The duo will be joined by ex-drummer of label-mates Dr. Dog, Juston Stens, and keyboardist Michael Libramento from Floating Action. Opening will be Best of the Beat Awards nominee Brass Bed and Butter & Jelly.

And if that weren’t enough to tickle locals pink, this week only Generationals’ record label, local Park the Van Records, is offering the Trust EP as an exclusive free download for OffBeat readers up until the show on Friday!
