George Benson’s May 21 New Orleans appearance has been cancelled

UPDATE: This event has been cancelled due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts. All refunds can be obtained at point of purchase.

In April, legendary jazz guitarist, singer and songwriter George Benson released an album paying tribute to Chuck Berry and Fats Domino. The album, Walking to New Orleans: Remembering Chuck Berry and Fats Domino, inspired Benson’s ongoing Walking to New Orleans tour, which comes to town Tuesday, May 21.

Prior to its release, Benson spoke with OffBeat‘s John Wirt for the April 2019 issue. There, the ten-time GRAMMY winner discussed how a Fats Domino tribute record came about. “The record company came up with the idea. That’s one of the reasons why I wanted to record with a European label [The Netherlands’ Provogue Records/Mascot Label Group]. In the United States, they only think of me as ‘smooth jazz’ George. With that mentality, you can’t get into big sales numbers. I like the general audience. I like to make music for everybody. And that translates into recognition all over the planet.”

Tickets for Benson’s May 21 appearance at the Fillmore New Orleans are available here and range from $57.50 to $87.50. The all-ages event opens its doors at 7 p.m.
