Glenn Miller Orchestra To Take Audience Back In Time In February 2019

The world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra is one of the most sought-after bands, traveling far and wide to perform the hits of Glenn Miller. On February 12, 2019 the Glenn Miller Orchestra tour comes to the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans for one night only. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel back in time to the swing era and watch the anthems of a generation performed live.

Though most of Miller’s hits came during a short, three-year time frame, he dominated the charts and became integral to swing music. The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform several of his original arrangements including Moonlight Serenade,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “String of Pearls” and “Tuxedo Junction.”

Miller created a unique sound from the clarinet carrying the melody with notes matched by the tenor saxophone. The harmonies are produced by three other saxophones with trombones and trumpets in the background. Unlike other jazz bands, Glenn Miller created strict arrangements and offered less improvisation. The Glenn Miller Orchestra was founded 75 years ago and continues to uphold the legendary bandleader’s legacy by performing his greatest hits with incredible accuracy.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is directed by Nick Hilscher, who will return to his southern roots at the New Orleans performance. Hilscher, who grew up in Atlanta and attended college in Birmingham, joined the GMO in 1998 as a featured male vocalist. Hilscher has admired Glenn Miller since he was a child. “Been listening to Glenn Miller and his Orchestra play the hits…No wonder it hit me like a ton of bricks, knocked me out and changed my life when I was eleven!” he said.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra’s 2019 tour wouldn’t be complete without a performance in the Big Easy, the city that inspired many of the jazz musicians that inspired Glenn Miller. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for a 7 p.m. show at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans. Tickets range from $56 to $83 and can be purchased here.
