Harvest: New Orleans Food Co-Op Throws Grand Opening Party

It’s been nine years since the consumer cooperative’s original conception, but tomorrow the New Orleans Food Co-Op will proudly showcase it’s progress and commemorate the grand opening of it’s recently-opened store in the New Orleans Healing Center.

“Harvest” will feature locally-grown food samples, a motley marquee of local musicians, children’s crafts, and various raffles. The celebration’s opening ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Healing Center’s main entrance followed by a second line led by the Treme Brass Band that will end at Café Istanbul where musical performances will continue until 8 p.m. Performers include the street-musician duo David & Roselyn, boisterous ensemble Opera Creole, and blues master Washboard Chaz, among other local favorites. During the ongoing concert itinerary, the Healing Center will host an array of activities—local farmers and vendors will showcase their products and offer free tastings, the co-op’s staff and Board of Directors will greet attendees, the Goodchildren Carnival Club will craft dolls with the children, and other informational booths will display the community’s continuous growth.
