Alt-pop band Royal Teeth drops new single, announces ‘Hard Luck’ album

The alternative pop band Royal Teeth released a new single, the high-energy “Get A Load Of This One,” and announced their new project, a full-length album titled Hard Luck.

Following the release of four other singles recently, “Get A Load Of This One” continues the band’s shift toward electronic pop as Royal Teeth continues to expand upon their folk music roots. The band also released the single with a lyric video, which depicts an animated peacock–inspired by the real peacock that lives in the band’s neighborhood–dancing along with the beat. The other singles released before include “Never Gonna Quit” (the music video for which showcased the New Orleans pop singer-songwriter and dancer Valerie Sassyfras), “It’s Just the Start,” “Show You What I Can Do” featuring Tude Olaniran and the ballad “Rivalry.”

On the topic of creating “Get A Load Of This One,” Gary Larsen, the band’s lead vocalist, said, “It was fun to make because it’s so different from our previous music. It’s about acknowledging your pain, your flaws and showing everyone you can still shine.” The first single released in the band’s current song cycle, it marked a return for Royal Teeth after a five-year hiatus, and just as “Get A Load Of This One” celebrates a mentality of working through pain, “Never Gonna Quit” espoused a similar philosophy, representing the band’s return and the new album’s theme of facing fears.

“This line of work can be difficult,” said Larsen. “It requires you to be vulnerable and put yourself out there to be judged by others. It’s hard to get used to. We are using this album as a platform to face our fears, and to focus on the love we find through the music we create and those who connect along the way. I hope that this album gives strength to anyone who has a hard time putting themselves out there for the world to see.”

Along with Larsen, the band is composed of singer Nora Patterson, guitarist Thomas Onebane and drummer Josh Hefner. The band will release Hard Luck with Round Hill Records on June 28. For more information on Royal Teeth, click here.
