Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s annual Sync Up Conference returns during Jazz Fest

Sync Up, the Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s annual entertainment industry conference, will celebrate its tenth year when it returns during Jazz Fest. As usual, the event will bring together leaders in music, film and digital media for a series of education and networking sessions at The George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center (1225 N. Rampart Street).

cover-0317-offbeat-lores-1Sync Up will be divided into two distinct segments, with Sync Up Music taking place on the mornings of April 28, April 29 and May 5. Sync Up Cinema will follow on May 1-3. Admission to all programming is free, but advance registration is required.

Highlights from the music portion of the conference include discussions with two New Orleans bands that have blown up in the past year (The Revivalists, Tank and the Bangas), panels on women in major event production, and a keynote interview with electronic music superstar Pretty Lights, the latter of which will be moderated by OffBeat web editor Sam D’Arcangelo (a.k.a me). All of the Sync Up Music programming will be streamed live via WWOZ.

On the film side of things, highlights include film spotlighting the cultures of Cuba and Jamaica, a screening of No Amis (an HBO documentary about the band Eagles of Death Metal’s return to Paris on the anniversary of the Bataclan theater terrorist attack), and a keynote presentation from production designer Hannah Beachler, who worked on the Academy Award-winning film Moonlight, Beyonce’s Lemonade and Marvel’s upcoming release Black Panther.
